Eumetsat Polar System
An Introduction to the EUMETSAT Polar System is an informative webcast produced by the COMET® program in collaboration with EUMETSAT.

The EUMETSAT Polar System (EPS) is not only a series of Metop spacecraft - it includes extensive ground-based facilities to monitor and control the satellites as well as to ensure the exploitation of the vital data acquired by the satellites. As well as continuous direct broadcast of all instrument measurements, data will be stored on the satellite and transmitted once per orbit to a EUMETSAT ground station on Svalbard, Norway. All data will be transmitted to the EUMETSAT headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany for processing, archiving and distribution. Global data from the NOAA satellites will also be received and processed. Operational level 1 and level 2 products from the satellite data will be derived at the EUMETSAT headquarters. Many level 2 products and higher level products are derived at specialised Satellite Application Facilities within Europe.
